ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Larry Michaels was born and raised in East Toledo, living first on Arden Place and then on Butler Street. He attended Franklin (until age 7), finished elementary school at Navarre, and graduated from Waite in 1965. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran while growing up, and for the past thirteen years, since returning to Toledo, has been Resource Pastor at Hope Lutheran Church. He also teaches English part-time at The University of Toledo.

After being away from Toledo for over fifteen years, he returned with a new appreciation for his hometown, especially the part on the east side of the river. Since writing East Side Story in 1993 (now in its 4th printing), he has been thrilled to discover that so many other people have a genuine interest in the East Side's rich heritage and history. This book is an appreciation of those places that over the years have made East Toledo special. He and his wife Suzi own the Bihl house at St. Louis & Greenwood, where the Historical Society maintains a library for East Side research.
