Our meetings are the 3rd Thursday of the month, and dues for 2001

January Meeting
The 20 members present elected the same officers for another year: Mike McNaull, Pres.; Dick Taylor, V.P.; and Mary Lou Taylor, Sec.-Treas. These three are the mainstay of our chapter, and we thank them sincerely for continuing to serve.

Dick Taylor, who presided, read two letters sent in 1913 by A. R. Pardington of LHA to Glen Rohleder of Hayesville concerning route through Ashland County. These were donated to us by Carol Freytag’s aunt.
Attention was called to a 2-page spread in a recent Bucyrus paper concerning the Federal Study Act.
The Dalton Community Historical Society has had the Lincoln Highway
post done by Cat’s Meow of Wooster. Cost is $9.00, plus $2.00
s&h if ordered from the Society at P.O. Box 273, Dalton OH 44618 -
or $9.00 if picked up at the newspaper office there.
Reports were given on the program done for the C&VB at Upper Sandusky
- status of getting Historic Lincoln Highway signs on Baywood
St. - discussed putting signs on Roller Coaster Road, and marking the
Seedling Mile if we locate it for sure - discussed further donating the
Anderson book to all elementary schools and libraries along route.
Lincoln Highway Programs
Jim Ross spoke to the Historical Society of Galion recently.
Mike McNaull will speak to the Smithville Lion’s Club on March 27.
Bob Lichty has been invited to speak at meeting of the Antique Auto Club of America on March 15 at Virginia Beach, Va.
I was interviewed on an internet radio talk show by Matt Bullock, the Travel Man, at www.AdrenalineRadio.com. Referral was by Jim Ross. The show airs Mondays at 5:00 p.m. our time, 2:00 p.m. PST
Federal Study Bill - The LH Study Act of 1999 passed in the Senate in December and was signed by Pres. Clinton. Much credit goes to Bob Lichty who proposed it, Rep. Ralph Regula who introduced it in Congress, and all those along the LH who supported it!
Inaugural Parade - Craig Harmon drove his
old firetruck, decked out in LH regalia in the Inaugural Parade on January
20. Riding on it were: Miss America, Angela Perez Baraquito
- Mary Lou Rettin & her husband - ballplayers Steve Garvey and Johnny
Bench, and Crawford County Commissioner Mo Ressallat dressed as Mr. Lincoln.
Baywood Street - The Paris Township
Trustees have given their permission for, and will assist with, placing
“Historic LH” signs on this brick remnant of the original route in Stark
County.
Opera House on the Web - The Historic Opera House in Hayesville is now on the world-wide web at: www.bright.net/~opera/hayesville/ We plan to hold a meeting in the opera house this spring.
